Jim Gifford has worked as an in-house editor since 1997. He has successfully published over 100 national bestsellers, including 20 #1 bestsellers, along with numerous award-winning titles. His works have been recognized internationally, translated into various languages across many countries. He specializes in genres such as memoir, popular science, true crime, sports, history, and military history. He resides in Toronto with his family and his energetic pup, Morty.
A graduate of the University of Toronto, Ryerson University, and Simon Fraser University, Jim Gifford has been one of Canada’s most successful book editors over the past three decades, specializing in non-fiction.
He interned at Knopf Random House and worked at ITP Nelson, Stoddart Publishing, Thomas Allen Publishers, HarperCollins Canada, and Simon & Schuster Canada.
His titles have won dozens of literary awards, including back-to-back CBC Canada Reads champions — Forgiveness and By Chance Alone. His bestselling titles of all time include Tara Westover’s Educated, Theo Fleury’s Playing with Fire, and Robert Herjavec’s Driven. He was awarded the University College Alumnus of Influence Award and was a finalist for the award for Canada’s top editor. He is mainly a substantive editor, with a focus on developmental editing and manuscript assessment and ghostwriting.
